CAC and Rivet360 Presents - Audio Flux Circuit 06

CAC and Rivet360 Present: Audio Flux in Chicago with Julie Shapiro

Small audio, big stories, and a sneak peek of Circuit 06!

Audio Flux invites producers and audio fans alike to make three-minute “fluxworks” in response to creative prompts. Genre-agnostic and wildly imaginative, to date Audio Flux has inspired more than 230 of these short audio gems.

Julie will be joined on stage by longtime friend and fellow co-founder of the Third Coast International Audio Festival, Johanna Zorn. They’ll talk about the roots of Audio Flux and how creative audio fits into today’s podcast landscape, sharing fluxworks along the way. The evening will culminate with a special guest and sneak peek of the Audio Flux Circuit 06 open call, one day before the rest of the world learns about it!

Then stay to mingle and meet local audio creatives with the Chicago Audiomakers Collective and Rivet360 in the Sleeping Village bar.

Can you get me up to speed on Audio Flux?

Of course! We're truly thrilled to host Julie Shapiro for the reveal of Audio Flux Circuit 06. Here's a bit about Audio Flux in case you're unfamiliar:

Audio Flux is a home for innovative, short-form audio and bold storytelling. It was co-founded in 2023 by a pair of audiophiles who believe deeply in audio culture and community, and the transformative power of sound + story. And who loooove to listen.

How it works: Audio Flux regularly invites people far and wide to create short audio works inspired by a set of prompts. For each “circuit” we engage with a creative partner who helps design these prompts, and share the resulting “fluxworks” via live events, online, across social channels, and on (soon) The Audio Flux Podcast. Everyone - artists and fans alike - is welcome to take part in Audio Flux!

With the Circuit 06 announcement coming soon, what were 01 -05?

  • Developed in creative partnership with best-selling writer and artist Wendy MacNaughton, our Circuit 01 theme is Letting Go.
  • Circuit 02 was developed in creative partnership with documentary filmmaker Sam Green of 32 Sounds. The theme is Listening With.
  • Our creative partner for Circuit 03 was NYC-based pet portrait artist Ben Lenovitz. The theme was Pet Sounds, and besides commissioning four fluxworks, we opened the circuit up for public submissions!
  • Our creative partner for Circuit 04 was the singular literary artist, Jason Reynolds, whose latest YA novel, Twenty Four-Seconds from Now, inspired our circuit theme: Firsts.
  • Our Circuit 05 theme was in In 3D in partnership with NYC-based writer, comedian, and 3D photography aficionado, Eric Drysdale whose vast collection of stereoscopic slides from the 1950’s served as inspiration for each fluxwork.
